ADMISSION GUIDELINES
The Undergraduate Programmes of B. A / B.Sc. conducted at the college adheres to/ follows the Manipur University “ORDINANCE FOR UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES IN SCIENCE, ARTS AND COMMERCE, 2021, given the new National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, Under Section 31 of the Manipur University Act, 2005, vide Office Order No. 372 dated June 14, 2022.
- GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
Candidates seeking admission to undergraduate courses should apply offline/online. The form, complete in all respects, is to be filled in by the candidate and copies of the documents submitted/uploaded must be submitted to the college in person/through the college website www.westerncollege.ac.in.
A student applying for admission to B.A./B.Sc. First-year students are advised to give only 1(one) core subject/course of their choice from the list provided under the courses offered.
1.1 CHOICE OF CORE COURSES IN B.A./B.Sc. FIRST-YEAR
- Core Course: This course is to be compulsorily studied by a student as a core requirement to complete a programme requirement in a said discipline/subject of study.
- Elective Course: Generally, an elective course is a course which can be chosen from a pool of courses which may be very specific, specialized, advanced or supportive to the discipline/ subject of study, which provides an extended scope or which enables exposure to some other discipline/subject/domain or nurtures the candidate’s proficiency/skill.
- A candidate has to choose one subject/discipline as the core course of his/her choice, and he/she must choose at least one generic/elective paper from the group.
- Of the Core subjects listed/chosen by the candidate, DSC-1 & DSC-2 will be allotted to the candidate purely on a merit basis.
- Choosing subjects/courses by a candidate does not guarantee admission to a particular course.
- Admission of a student in a course will be merit-based only.
- A candidate cannot opt for two practical subjects, D.S.C.-1 and D.S.C.-2.
1.2 GUIDELINES AND GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS:
- Candidates seeking admission to the above classes should apply online. The form, complete in all respects, is to be filled in by the candidate, and copies of the uploaded documents must be submitted through the college website, westerncollege.ac.in.
- A student applying for admission to B.A./B.Sc.- First-year students are advised to give one of the subjects/courses of his/her choice, choosing atleast one course from each group (page). However, allotting courses (DSC-1 & DSC-2) to the student will be done on merit.
- Subject-wise merit lists will be displayed on the college website and notice board on the scheduled dates.
- The admission form recommended by the Admission Committee and approved by the Principal entitles a student to deposit the prescribed fee within the stipulated period.
- A candidate who fails to deposit the fee/dues by the prescribed date and time shall forfeit her right to admission. The seat shall be offered to the next student on the merit list, for which the notices will be displayed on the official website accordingly. In no case shall the third merit list be issued.
- In case of tie-in selection, the older candidate shall be given weightage.
The roster for reservation of seats in various categories shall be as per the rules of Director University and Higher Education, Manipur.
- Incomplete admission forms and those without copies of uploaded documents will not be entertained.
- No admission whatsoever shall be made after the due date.
- All admissions will be as per the admission schedule notified by Manipur University from time to time.
- DOCUMENTS AND CERTIFICATES REQUIRED FOR APPLYING ADMISSION:
- Passport size photograph (2)
- Copy of Matriculation certificate
- Copy of 10+2 certificate
- Copy of the original Character certificate from the Head of the Institution last attended or character certificate issued by a Gazetted Officer in case of a private candidate. The character certificate should not be older than six months on the day of admission.
- A copy of the certificate issued by the competent authority should be enclosed to avail of the reservation benefit in the category concerned if it is a reservation category or a particular caste.
- If the candidate has a year a year gap in the academic career, he/she should be submitted Affidavit.
- An equivalence eligibility certificate from a Board/University for the candidates who have passed 10+2 from a Board other than the state Board of School Education/ICSE/CBSE.
- Copy of the original Migration/Registration certificate for the candidates who have passed from a Board/Council/University other than the Council of Higher Secondary Education Manipur.
- Copy of Aadhar card.
Note: Admission without any of the abovementioned documents shall be purely provisional and at the candidate’s own risk. The candidate must produce all his/her original certificates for verification when demanded by the Admission Committee/College office on the dates displayed on the notice board and the college website.
- UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAMMES:
3.1 B.A. Programme: The students who have passed the 10+2 or an equivalent examination are accepted as equivalent by various bodies of Manipur. University with 33% marks (including English). The students opting for Mathematics as one of the study subjects must have 45% marks in aggregate or 45% in Mathematics at the 10+2 level. However, a student who has passed the qualifying examination in the Arts stream will be given preference in the B.A. programme.
3.2 B.Sc. Programme: 10+2 examination or an equivalent examination, accepted as equivalent by various bodies of Manipur University with pass marks in five subjects (three Science subjects & one English) with 45% marks. The students seeking admission to B.Sc.
- Under the National Vocational Education Qualification Framework (NVEQF), vocational subjects shall be given weightage equivalent to any other general education subject.
- All admissions to the B.A./B.Sc. program will be based on the merit of the 10+2 examination, considering the five best subjects, including English.
- The students placed under compartment or who failed the 10+2 examination are not eligible for admission to the college.
- Admission against quotas meant for outstanding sportswomen and outstanding students in cultural activities shall be made only once at the beginning of the session. These students must also qualify for the minimum eligibility conditions for admission in that course as provided under the rules.
- Only those students participating in the district/state/national level tournaments will be considered for the sports quota.
- Only those students who have secured 1st, 2nd or 3rd position in the District/State/National Level in cultural events will be considered for the quota meant for outstanding students in cultural activities.
- It will be mandatory for the students admitted against Sports and Cultural quotas to participate in sports/cultural events.
- Original certificates will have to be produced when demanded by the college authority. The dates for the same will be displayed on the college website and notice board.

- RESERVATION POLICY: The college follows the Manipur Government’s reservation policy and Manipur University’s admissions. The following reservations are available, which are filled according to the reservation roster devised by Manipur University:

Admission will be made purely on merit, subject to the number of seats available and the reservation per Manipur University rules/roster.
- The candidates applying for sports and Cultural quotas should deposit the hard copy of the admission form along with the supporting documents on or before the date to be notified of the university admission schedule in the Department of Physical Education.
From the academic session 2016-17, Manipur University has adopted the UGC curriculum framework under CBCS to ensure uniformity in higher education standards and to provide the students with quality education at par with the best in India. The CBCS allows the students to choose core, elective, and Skill-based subjects from the prescribed courses. In this system, the courses are evaluated using a grading system, which is considered better than the conventional marking system. The uniform grading system in India’s entire higher education sector will benefit students who want to move across institutions both within and outside India. The uniform grading system will also enable potential employers to assess the candidates’ performance. To bring uniformity in the evaluation system and computation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) based on student’s performance in examinations, the U.G.C. has formulated the following guidelines to be followed:

Fee Refund Policy
A refund claim can be admitted on merits, after due consideration of the request, by the College. If approved, the amount to be refunded shall be as per the latest UGC Guidelines.

Study in India (SII)
The Study in India is a project of the Government of India under the aegis of the Ministry of Education. The flagship programme was launched on the 18th of April, 2018. Currently, our college does not have the facility of SII.
